Tiger Baby

tigerbaby.gifTiger Baby was formed by Benjamin Teglbjerg and Nikolaj Gregersen in Copenhagen in 1999 after their split up with the indie pop band ‘Polytone’. A note on a blackboard at the University of Copenhagen brought the two together with Pernille Pang, who since then has made up the third part of the band as the lead singer and lyric composer.

After several concerts at different venues in Copenhagen, a couple of promos and appearances on different compilations as well as on the Danish National Radio’s alternative hit list ‘Det Elektriske Barometer’, Tiger Baby’s debut album ‘Lost in You’ was released in Denmark on June 1st 2004 by Gunhero Music, the band’s own record label. Four months later, on September 28th, ‘Lost in You’ was released in the States by ‘Souvenir Records’.

During the summer 2004 Tiger Baby’s first single ‘Chinese Fairytale’ rotated steadily on Danish radio and was among other things used as a jingle on Danish National TV. In October 2004 the band took part in the yearly reoccurring music festival CMJ in New York, and the second single ‘Sweetheart’ became “Ugens Uundgaelige” – the most played song of the week on Danish National Radio P3. In November 2004 ‘Lost in You’ was released in Japan distributed by ‘Quince Records’ and in December the legendary Danish label Cloudland Records emerged from a ten year break and released Tiger Baby’s Christmas song ‘This Christmas’. During December the song rotated on the Danish National Radio and was used in a campaign from the Danish cancer organisation ‘Kræftens Bekæmpelse’ on Danish TV.

Tiger Baby dedicated most of 2005 to the making of new songs for their second album. The album – like ‘Lost in You’ – was recorded and produced in the groups own studio on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen. The same year the song ‘Chinese Fairytale’ appeared on the soundtrack of the MTV-nominated, Indonesian film ‘Catatan Akhir Sekolah’.

By early 2006 the album was finished and titled ‘Noise Around Me’ after a line from one of the songs on the new, darker and dancier album. In February Tiger Baby contributed with a cover version of ‘Strangelove’ to the Danish Depeche Mode tribute-album ‘DMDK’, which was released February 27th in Denmark by Bonnier Amigo. In March Tiger Baby’s new single ‘At Least I’m Honest’ was introduced on Danish National Radio’s P3, and ‘Lost in You’ was released in Indonesia by Fast Forward Records.

During April and May the second album ‘Noise around You’ was released in Denmark, USA and Japan..
